Fishery Policy Review in Mon State

Network Activities Group (NAG) in partnership with Helvetas on 8th August 2017, Mon fishery policy review workshop was held at Mon State Parliament Hall. About seventy three participants including U Htun Htay, Mon State Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Transportation, Dr Aung Naing Oo, vice chairman of Mon Parliament, Daw Khaing Khaing Lei, Chairman of Mon State legislation committee and other committee members, U Than Chaung, Mon State Staff Officer from Department of Fisheries (DoF) and other diverse range of stakeholders from Mon State fishery partner organization, local fisher group, NGOs and INGOs took part in the workshop.

The workshop was opened by Daw Tin Tin Ei, Mon State Chairman of the Parliament and was conducted in participatory mode with active engagement on current Mon State’s policy review and outcomes. Most of the representatives from fishery-related departments expressed existing policy practices, constraints and future plans. U Aung Kyaw Thein, strategy advisor from Pyoe Pin discussed about implementation of international fishery co-management and experience of policy change and U Thant Zin Phyo, fishery program officer of NAG, procedures of local inland fishery policy changes. Moreover, the program was also comprised of deep discussions facilitated by NAG Project coordinators, group work by all participants and presentation of summarized group work discussions by Director General of Land Core Group.
